Our Chair, Dianne Jeans, is taking a select few on the trip of a lifetime – a two week walk from 18 to 30 May 2016 through the Gardens of Tuscany starting in Florence. 10 have signed up currently and are fundraising to support our cause whilst speaking out against domestic violence with their fundraising events selling out having raised $1,600 so far. Thank you.
Domestic violence is at epidemic proportions. Murder is at the pointy end of a broad spectrum of violence in our homes. A spectrum that encompasses financial, verbal, emotional, psychological, physical and sexual abuse, as well as workplace harassment. They all form part of a devastating cycle of violence, which all of us should be trained to Recognise, Respond and know where to Refer.
By taking on the challenge of speaking out against domestic violence, these walkers will be letting those suffering from this silent epidemic know that they are not alone and together we are working towards bringing this violence to an end.
Next year, they will all be heading to discover the hidden treasures of Tuscany, often concealed behind high walls and iron gates: the landscape of the Tuscan garden, a small paradise where the spontaneity of nature is persuaded to embrace the order and symmetry of reason – this two week tour is dedicated to this Tuscany. The tour will be led by Paul Blanchard, art historian and author of the Blue Guides to Northern and to Southern Italy. A New Yorker who has married and lived in Tuscany since 1980, Paul will use his extensive knowledge and contacts to give you an extraordinary introduction to Italy’s most beautiful region.
If you would like to take one of the last places available on this trip of a lifetime, the cost is $7,700 per person (twin share with a single supplement available). You will also need to raise $2,000 per person for Australia’s CEO Challenge. The organisers, Hidden Italy, will also be donating 5% of the fee back to the charity so it’s a win/win situation!
